Domaine de Rochebin Chardonnay Vieilles Vignes 2017
Domaine de Rochebin is situated at an altitude of 1,476 feet above sea level on a
hilltop overlooking the Saône plain close to the town of Azé. The wooded hillside of
Azé borders the village of Cluny whose abbey was one of the leading sites of medieval Christianity. Most of the 115 acres of Rochebin's vineyards came from the
abbey's former properties which have been farmed since the year 1000.
Since 1921, the Marillier family have been stewards of the property with ownership
passing from father to son. In 1991, Mikaël Marilier, and enthusiast producer with a
promising future, assumed the helm from his father, Jean Pierre.
The diversity of the terroir with Jurassic marl and limestone soils allow all of the prestigious Burgundy grape varieties; Chardonnay, Gamay, Pinot Noir and Bourgogne Aligoté. Production is
small, just 8,000 cases of red, 7,000 cases of white and 1,000 cases of rosé are made each year.
